Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:
IMC Companies, a national marine drayage industry company, made several announcements regarding its leadership team members at the company’s annual strategic planning meeting in Chicago. Donna Lemm was promoted from Executive Vice President of Sales to Chief Commercial Officer. Her responsibilities include directing strategic sales growth, expansion of IMC Companies service offerings, and government and industry affairs. She serves on the advisory board of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition. Katie George Hooser was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. Previously, she served as Vice President of Marketing and Communications. She is the past president and a current advisory board member of the Memphis World Trade Club. Mike Baker was named Strategic Financial Officer. He previously was Chief Financial Officer. He’s been with the company for 31 years and will continue to serve the company as a strategic financial adviser on strategic opportunities. Ted Showalter takes over for Baker as Chief Financial Officer. He previously was the Vice President of Finance.
Parker Azwell joined Trezevant senior living community as its new Marketing & Sales coordinator. She will assist with home sales and renovations as well as coordinate with new residents as they move into Trezevant’s community, which includes more than 230 apartments and garden homes that range in size from 650 square feet to over 3,000 square feet. Azwell will graduate from the University of Memphis in August with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media Studies. Before joining Trezevant, she was a virtual assistant for Clear Home Solutions in California.
Neel-Schaffer recently announced Chip Greene has joined the firm and will serve as Construction Services manager for the Middle Tennessee area. He has more than 20 years of experience overseeing roadway and bridge construction projects and has served as the contractor’s Project Manager for numerous Tennessee Department of Transportation projects. Greene has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Murray State University.

Memphis attorneys A C and Ruby Wharton were honored last month with the presentation of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division Fellows William M. Leech Jr. Public Service Award. A C Wharton built a distinguished career in public service and education, moving to Memphis to serve as executive director of Memphis Area Legal Services before later being appointed Shelby County’s Chief Public Defender. During that time, he also served as a law professor at the University of Mississippi, the first time a Black person had held that post. His career in public service continued in 2002 when he was elected as the first Black mayor of Shelby County, and in 2009 when he was elected mayor of Memphis, a position he held until 2015. Ruby Wharton began her career as an attorney at the Neighborhood Legal Services Program in Washington, D.C. She went on to serve as a public defender prior to going into private practice. At the Wharton firm, she has produced a 40-year track record of excellence in representing individuals in wills and estates, personal injury, medical malpractice, conservatorships, guardianships and powers of attorney.
