Mobile mother indicted on manslaughter in 2018 death of special needs son
A Mobile County grand jury indicted a mother on manslaughter and aggravated child abuse charges in the 2018 death of her 8-year-old special needs son, who died malnourished and dehydrated.
Zedria Rankin allegedly recklessly caused son Lebrawn Rankin’s death by failing to provide food for her him, the grand jury determined, according to NBC 15.
Zedria Rankin and the Mobile County Department of Human Resources are defendants in a wrongful death suit filed by Lebrawn Rankin’s estate last year.
Lebrawn Rankin, who had cerebral palsy, died malnourished and dehydrated. NBC 15 reported the 8-year-old weighed only 23 pounds at the time of his death in 2018.
Zedria Rankin’s bail was set at $75,000 in the case.
