By Benjamin Flowers: The family of the late Police Superintendent Henry Jemmott says that they will be pursuing legal recourse against Jasmine Hartin, the woman reportedly responsible for his death.
BBN spoke with Marie Jemmott Tzul, sister of the deceased, who said that the family’s primary focus at this time is to make the preparations for his funeral, but that a wrongful death suit is imminent.
Speaking on the prosecution’s decision to charge Hartin with manslaughter by negligence, Tzul said that the family is dissatisfied and blames a flaw in the procedure for the charge.
“All the evidence was not presented and that’s why the prosecution decided to charge her with that,” Tzul said.
Hartin’s bail application is going before the Supreme Court this week, while she remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison.
Meanwhile Jemmott’s funeral is set for June 12 in Dangriga. San Pedro police held a memorial in his honor in front of the island’s station on Tuesday.
