Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Joins Marshall’s Neuroscience Division
Cabell Huntington Hospital, a member of Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall Health, and the Mountain Health Network, recently added Dr. Jeffrey D. Kim, an orthopedic spine surgeon, to the provider’s team.
Kim, a board-certified fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, has been appointed as an assistant professor of neurosurgery and orthopedics at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. He has a special interest in treating all spinal cord conditions, including the neck and back, and utilizing minimally invasive methods.
Kim specializes in adult degenerative diseases such as lumbar spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, radiculopathy, cervical myelopathy, and cervical radiculopathy. He uses both conservative and surgical treatments, depending on the patient’s needs and evidence-based studies.
Kim recently served as an orthopedic spine surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He holds a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He completed orthopedic training at Marshall School of Medicine and subsequently completed a spine surgery fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He is accredited by the American Orthopedic Commission.

Smith joins OVBC, OVB board of directors
Chairman and CEO Thomas E. Wiseman announced at a board meeting held on June 15 that K. Ryan Smith was elected to the Board of Directors of Ohio Valley Bank Corporation and Ohio Valley Bank. His term begins on July 1st.

Originally from Gallia County, Ohio, Smith graduated from Gallia Academy High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Ohio State University. He is a former chairman of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce, a former director of Holzer Health, and is now a board member of the Gallia County Community Improvement Authority (CIC).
He was a former director of the Galipolis City School and led the Red Dot Campaign, which was the driving force behind the financing of the Gaul Academy High School building built in 2009.
Smith and his wife, Vicky, live in Gallia County with four children: Grant, Blake, Kennedy, and Kamurin.

Maxwell attends a workshop on stuttering
Dr. Jamie Maxwell of Barbosville, CCC-SLP, was one of 20 linguistic pathologists selected to attend an intensive workshop on stuttering therapy.
Maxwell, an assistant professor at Marshall University, participated in the online workshop “Using a Cognitive Approach to Collaborate with Stutterers” from June 7th to 11th. It was co-sponsored by the Stuttering Foundation and Boston University.
Diane Paris Konstantino, CCC-SLP and Workshop Coordinator at Boston University, said: “The Foundation offers full scholarships, but many give up on vacations and some of their income to attend. Our job is to provide a forum where they can hone their skills. is.”

Rice honored for 20 years of safety
